Vintage Mermaids

So, it's been quite a while since I've written anything, but I have a good excuse. I've been trapped in Germany with only an iPad. I'm sure a more tech savvy person could have made it work, but I could not for the life of me, figure out how to upload pictures on the iPad. But now I have a computer! So for my first official post from Germany, I would like to present to you the vintage mermaid cookies I made for Party On! Designs. I absolutely loved everything about this party!

Amber created so many amazing touches that I would have never even thought of, that really made this party special. But I guess that's why she's a party planner and I only focus on one aspect of a party. Even cookies are overwhelming for me, I can't imagine being organized enough to create an enitre amazing party like this one!

These cookies were so much fun to make! I definitely went overboard with the disco dust, but I don't care, it's one of my favorite things in the whole world, so I can never have too much, right?

The mermaids and font were directly from Amber's designs, I usually don't like to go quite so literal with my designs, but these were so amazing, I couldn't not match them perfectly. I decided to make some of the cookies with just the tails to save a little bit of my sanity since each of the painted mermaids took over an hour to make and I did 6 of them! Did I mention that this was 2 days before I left to spend 2 months in Germany? It was a little hectic, to say the least.

I don't know if you can tell from my less than stellar photography, but the white background of the tail cookies are also covered with lustre dust, since all that disco dust obviously wasn't enough. Also, sprinkles. Just in case I didn't throw enough on there.

So there they are. Make sure you head over to Party On! Designs to check out the rest of this crazy incredible party!

A special thanks to Amber for letting me be a part of this amazing party!

Thank a teacher!

So, I dropped the ball a bit during Teacher Appreciation, May is such a busy month around here! But tomorrow is my little lady's last day of preschool, so these are going with her.

I had intended for this to be a printable that I had designed, but my printer ran out of blue ink and I was too lazy to go to the store. So I painted it on a cookie instead. That's normal, right? I actually think it looks way better than just a tag hanging off of a pot, so I'm going to go with the official story of; I had intended to paint it on a cookie this whole time, and I didn't spend 3 hours on the computer designing a graphic that I didn't even use. There that makes me feel better.

She has a teacher and 2 aides in her room, and I couldn't leave the ladies in the front office out. They work hard too! Flower pops for everyone.

This is going to be my last post before I head over to Germany, so from now on, all posts will be in German. Just kidding. I can only sing hymns in German, and they're mostly from memory.

(one of the other German words I know...)

A mad tea party

My sweet baby girl turned 5 this week. I can't believe how fast the time flies! She decided she wanted to have an Alison Wonderland party this year, since she apparently thinks that is what the movie is called. How cute is that?

I hate to spend a lot of money on things that the kids won't even notice until they're older and looking at pictures, but I also want everything to be cute and the way I imagine it in my head. So I make everything myself. It takes quite a while!

Cheshire grins to put a smile on your face.
 The Queen's court.
Through the enchanted forest, or whatever that area was called in the movie...
To the mad tea party!

There were a lot of pink elements to this party since that is her favorite color. It really turned out to be more of just a tea party than a mad tea party, but what are you gonna do?

Pink disco dust mini cupcakes with, of course, an even mini-er cupcake cookie

Rice Crispie Treats dipped in white chocolate
I had hoped that these would come out pretty and smooth, like a little tea cake, instead I got these lumpy things. But they tasted good!

Lots and lots of cookies! I had actually planned to make more than this, but I was up until midnight several nights before the party just to get these done.

Teacup pops for her guests

My newest addition, chocolate chip cookies!

She made this sign herself to hang above the favors

And the birthday girl!

Mother's Day Gifts from the kids

My daughter loves to make cards and pictures for people on special occasions, like Mother's Day. But let's be honest, what do people do with them? Put them on the fridge for a while, then either throw them out or shove them in a drawer and forget about them. So this year for Mother's Day, I decided to help them create something that I knew she would really enjoy.

I started with a sugar cookie and flooded a white base and surrounded it with a gold frame.

My 2 year old son painted this one. I was really surprised how well he stayed in the lines. He isn't all that great with the following of directions or paying attention to me in general.

Caroline, my almost 5 year old painted this. I am amazed how much her artwork has progressed in the last year! Too bad she wants to be a horse riding, fire-fighting doctor instead of an artist. Oh well, at least she'll be able to pay the bills. I guess... I hear horses are pretty expensive.

Happy Mother's Day everyone!

Owl you need is love!

I made these owl cookies for one of my favorite people ever. She's an amazing little girl, well, she was when I met her, now she's an amazing young lady who just turned 16, and I can't believe it! Makes me feel so old! She has Cystic Fibrosis and had to spend her birthday in the hospital, so I hope these helped to make her day a little better.

She showed me some owl plates that she found for her party, so I started from there. I decided to make them a little more colorful for spring.

Happy Birthday, Cheyenna! We love you!

Go Cards!

I'm so happy I was asked to make these baseball cookies for a friend! I had been meaning to get around to some opening day cookies, but that never happened. I love the way these turned out!

Each of the birthday boy's friends got to take home a personalized baseball cookie.

Happy Birthday, Colton!

Cookie Box! (Finally!)

I finally did it! Around Christmas, I thought it would be adorable to make a gift shaped box or two to place mini cookies in for our family party. I failed miserably. And again a few times after that. I had a vendor fair last weekend, so I decided to give it one last shot before completely throwing in the towel, and it worked! I don't know what I did differently other than not using cookie cutters to cut out the squares, I guess that did the trick because it fit together perfectly. The entire thing is 100% edible!

I am completely in love with the entire thing!

Here it is all wrapped up and ready to go out to someone who also fell in love with it!

Under the Sea

A friend of mine got in touch with me and asked if I could make some cookies for her son's birthday party based on a cake that she had found. She wanted squids and jellyfish, not a problem, but I had to make them "not too cutesy" since Brice was turning 13. This was a tad tricky for me since I have had basically no contact with 13 year old boys since I was the same age. And even then, I had no clue what they might have been thinking! I loved the way they turned out though, and they were a big hit!

Bird's Party Feature!

The latest step on my path to making a splash in the cookie world, my cookies were featured in Bird's Party Magazine! The talented Christie from Flaired Affairs styled a beautiful  Maypole in the Garden party and she was sweet enough to include me!

How fun does this party look? I love the soft pastels and flowers everywhere! It was a little hard trying to design a fun, springy look back in cold and gloomy January, but I think everything came together perfectly.

This has definitely been one of my favorite and most well received designs to date and I'm so happy to be able to finally share the complete package with everyone!

Make sure you check out the magazine available for online viewing and in print!

Easter Part 2

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I love getting to spend time with my extended family and the weather was perfect! I finished up all of my cookies just in the nick of time and wanted to shared them with you before I get started on a very busy week!

These were requested by someone who loved my Bird's Party design as much as I do. But of course, they needed to be modified just a bit to give them a really Easter-y feel.

And this platter, I created for my family's get together. I'm glad I got these pictures when I did, they disappeared very quickly!

My #1 cookie taster and my grandpa, they both gave the cookies a thumbs up!
